Kristy Armstrong, 36, the victim – Police are investigating the death of a mother of three as a domestic violence incident after it was revealed that she had obtained an AVO against her estranged husband, who reportedly crashed into her.
Ms. Armstrong and Troy Armstrong, 35, were seen screaming at each other outside their children’s primary school in central west NSW moments before the tragedy on Friday. Ms. Armstrong was killed when her green sedan collided with Mr. Armstrong’s truck on Speedy St in Molong at 3.40 pm. Ms. Armstrong was unable to be saved despite the efforts of emergency personnel.
Two of her daughters, ages eight and thirteen, were in the backseat and were brought to the hospital with minor injuries. They are currently being cared for by their grandparents. Mr. Armstrong was pulled from the wreckage of the ute by Fire and Rescue NSW officers and airlifted to a Sydney hospital in critical condition. The arborist remains in critical condition and under police guard at Royal North Shore Hospital, 290km from where the crash happened.

Kristy Armstrong dies in a car accident in Molong
Two weeks before the crash, a court had granted Ms. Armstrong an apprehended violence order against Mr. Armstrong. On May 25, the estranged couple appeared in Orange Local Court, where an AVO was granted to protect Ms. Armstrong, the Daily Telegraph reported. Ms. Armstrong first applied for an AVO last November last year, around the time the couple separated, and an interim order was issued at that time.
Witnesses said the pair were seen arguing at a local school before driving away in separate cars before the crash. Social media posts showed the couple had been together since 2005 before separating last year. The tragic crash has rocked the close-knit town of Molong. ‘It’s devastating for the town of Molong with the loss of a young local lady, it’s terrible news for the families,’ Mayor Kevin Beatty told Nine News. Last night in town it was very somber and again today, it’s been very quiet.’

Tributes have flooded social media, with one local woman saying she is shattered beyond words,’ and members of the community saying the disaster will touch the entire town. ‘I don’t have words for the pain in my thoughts right now, just a big ache in my heart,’ she said. When contacted for comment, NSW Police stated that local and specialist homicide police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident, but they verified that the two drivers knew each other.
