Kle Swee was seen on video waving a gun at a student, prompting St Paul police to charge him with first-degree aggravated robbery. In the video, he was seen brandishing the pistol before attempting to seize the child’s cell phone. A scuffle erupted, which was videotaped by another student. Swee was 16 at the time, while the victim was 15. Cops were first dubious if the pistol was real, but soon realized it was a BB gun, prompting Swee to plead guilty in August and be placed on supervised probation. Swee was released in January after performing 100 hours of community service, but he was nabbed Wednesday at his family’s house for the murder of Michael Brasel, 44, four days after he was gunned down on May 6. As the hockey coach left the house, one of his two school-aged sons, who are in grades eight and five, told officers he heard his father ask, ‘What are you doing?’ According to the murder charges filed on Friday, a barrage of gunshots followed, leaving Brasel wounded and motionless in the family’s front yard. Witnesses said they saw a black Honda with tinted windows and a loud exhaust depart the scene driving west, its tires squealing as Hilary frantically tried to revive her husband. Brasel was taken to the hospital by paramedics. According to documents, the minor hockey coach was confirmed dead thereafter succumbing to several gunshot wounds from an unknown perpetrator.

Prosecutors in Ramsey County revealed the suspect’s prior criminal background in court Friday, as he remained jailed in the county’s juvenile detention center.
Aside from the April 2022 incident that resulted in Swee’s expulsion from high school, documents reveal that the previous year, the then-15-year-old entered a garage linked to an occupied house to steal a car in Albert Lea, Minn. That act resulted in him being charged with burglary, assistant Ramsey County attorney Madelyn Adams said in court Friday, referring to the recent instance in which the father-of-two was shot ‘in his front garden’.
Officials also stated that when cops arrived on the scene May 6 around 7 a.m., the door of the family’s Ford Flex was ajar and appeared to have been rummaged through, indicating that Brasel – who relatives said was known to wake up early – was killed while attempting to stop Swee from hijacking the vehicle. [Swee’s] criminal past is symptomatic of a man who does not hesitate to breach the personal space of his victims,’ Adams said, arguing that Swee should be held in custody despite his age. The boy’s mother, who was present, agreed to the manipulation. Karla Valusek Strom, an attorney hired by her son, told attendees, ‘We have no debate over custody.’ Swee, given his background and the evidence against him, posed a risk to the public, according to Judge Sophia Vuelo, and the charges against him demonstrate a flagrant ‘disregard for human life.’
Finally, the county attorney’s office filed a motion to get Swee certified to stand trial as an adult, which would mean he could face life in prison if convicted of the May 6 murder. Officers discovered that the bumper containing the license plate that led them to Swee’s house was registered to the suspect’s father and that a Honda parked in the garage matching witness descriptions and CCTV footage captured at the scene was missing the same bumper. When asked if they were still looking for other suspects on Sunday, St Paul PD spokeswoman Alyssa Arcand said, ‘Investigators are keeping all avenues open at this time.’ Swee is still imprisoned without bail and has yet to make a statement to police. A court date has yet to be set.
