Kerry Newman, a mother of two found dead on a pavement in Greater Manchester has been named by police following the arrest of a man and woman on suspicion of murder.
The body of Kerry Newman, 40, was found in a lane near New Barn Lane, in Rochdale, at around 4:30am. m. on Monday (July 17). Police immediately launched an investigation, and detectives said they were looking into “suspicious circumstances” while asking for information and witnesses. Greater Manchester Police confirmed today that a 48-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning. Subsequent investigations suggested that Ms Newman was taken from an address in Freehold to the area where she was later found dead. The cause of her death is unknown. In a tribute, Ms Newman’s mother and stepfather described her as “a loving daughter and mother of two children, taken from us far too soon”. They added: “She is already in heaven with the angels, rest in peace our beautiful girl.”

Two murder arrests after Rochdale mum found dead
After finding the body Monday morning, police blocked the road and closed a nearby elementary school while detectives launched a full investigation. Emergency services remained at the scene throughout the day while an evidence tent was erected and forensics scoured the area for clues. Police also confirmed that there would be a “visible presence” of officers in the area for the next few days to reassure the local community. Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith of GMP’s Major Incidents Team said: “Once again, my deepest and sincere condolences go out to Kerry’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.” “Our officers and specialist officers are supporting her family as this investigation continues and we will do everything we can to ensure justice is achieved for Kerry.” The investigation into Kerry’s tragic death is progressing well, and we want to ensure that justice is sought for Kerry and her loved ones.
“We continue to exhaust all possible investigations and thanks to these efforts we have been able to arrest two suspects and they remain in custody for questioning.” She added: ‘We continue to appeal to anyone with information relating to this incident to come forward. This includes any witnesses, anyone with knowledge of the incident, CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage in connection with this incident.
