Ken Buchanan Wiki – Ken Buchanan Biography

Former world boxing champion Ken Buchanan passed away at the age of 77. The Scottish sports star died “peacefully in his sleep” this morning, the Ken Buchanan Foundation said. RIP Ken, always a gentleman and one of the greatest champions we will ever see,” he added on Facebook.

Buchanan, who was born and raised in Edinburgh, won his first 33 fights and last fought in 1982. He finished his career with a 61-8 win-loss record. The boxer won the WBA lightweight title in 1970 by defeating Ismael Laguna in a famous fight in Puerto Rico and added to the WBC crown the following year with a victory over Rubén Navarro. He was stripped of the WBC title for failing to defend it against Pedro Carrasco and then lost the WBA belt when he controversially suffered only a second loss against the great Roberto Durán. Buchanan received an MBE in 1972 and a statue of him was unveiled in his hometown in 2022. Last year, his son revealed that the former boxer had dementia and lived in a nursing home.
