Kelsey Stuttard, 31, was driving to her Cheadle home after a shift as a shot girl at 3D nightclub, when her Audi A3 crashed into a bridge on Macclesfield Road, on the outskirts of Leek, Staffordshire.

The inquest has now heard that at the time Kelsey was driving more than twice the drink-driving limit, and coroner Emma Serrano has ruled that the accident was likely the result of alcohol and lack of sleep.

In a statement, Kelsey’s father, Gary, said: “During the Covid pandemic, she became a trained accountant where she worked full-time. She also took up a freelance job selling drinks to customers at the 3D club in Leek.

“On May 6, she started work at 9 am. She finished at 5 pm and returned home at 6:15 pm. At 10 pm she left home to go to Leek. “Usually, she would sleep before going out again, but this time she didn’t.

“She usually got home around 3:30 a.m. At 5:00 a.m. we were informed of her death. She was very familiar with her vehicle. There were no problems and she was a competent driver. She was also very familiar with the road “. In response to the discovery of Kelsey’s drinking that night, her family said they knew Kelsey would not have intentionally attempted to drive under the influence.

They said: “She wouldn’t drive that fast on the freeway. She was joked around by friends of hers, who often called her ‘driving granny.’ For drunks, I know she wouldn’t have driven intentionally knowing she had been drinking.” .

“She wouldn’t have driven, she used to plan ahead if she knew she would have a drink, either staying at a BnB or at a friend’s house. She would have known what she was drinking. When she had a drink, she planned it.” Kelsey’s family said she was “happy and joyful,” that she enjoyed traveling and that she had done volunteer work in Tanzania.
