Keith Yandle and Marco the suspect – After a body was discovered in a bunker inside a man-made pit, a former private school vice-captain and his father were charged with murder.
On Tuesday, police discovered the remains of father-of-two Steven Murphy in a pit at a farm in Kudla, on Adelaide’s northern outskirts, two months after he went missing. Keith Yandle, 46, and his 19-year-old son Marco were both charged with Mr. Murphy’s alleged murder on Thursday.
Marco is a gifted footballer, vice-captain, and accomplished student at the prestigious Trinity College. The news of Marco’s murder charge has sent shockwaves throughout the community.

Maisen McInerney, who worked with Marco at Domino’s, said the news “blew my mind.” When they stated it was Marco Yandle, I simply said ”No way, that’s ludicrous,” he told The Advertiser. ‘I was expecting to hear the last name.’
Trinity College’s head, Nick Hately, stated that the entire school community was stunned. We can confirm that one of the accused was a recent Trinity College student leader,’ Mr. Hately said. Many people in our neighborhood are in disbelief as they try to digest what has allegedly occurred. ‘Our hearts go out to everyone affected by these sad occurrences.’
Mr. Murphy’s body was discovered in a 15m by 15m man-made bunker beneath a garden shed. Keith Yandle was arrested earlier this week and charged with narcotics and firearms charges after police discovered 20 cannabis plants while searching the Kudla home. Officers went there after receiving a tip on Sunday that there might be a body on the grounds.
The area was emptied of water before excavators arrived to dig out the pit beneath the shed, revealing the bones. Police believe Mr. Murphy’s body stayed in the bunker for roughly six weeks, during which time he was reported missing. Mr. Murphy’s location had previously been sought by police through a Facebook appeal. He was last spotted in Kudla on February 15, prompting online suspicion that he had been squatting in local farm buildings. Marco and Keith Yandle are both being remanded in custody and will appear in court next week.
