Kaydra Johnson, a Tennessee woman has been arrested after her daughter wrote a story in her kindergarten class about her mother shooting her father during a fight at their home.
Kaydra Johnson, 28, was seized by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Monday and charged with four counts of reckless endangerment for allegedly firing the gun at her Arlington home while her four children were inside, WREG reported.
Police said they learned of the domestic violence after a school counselor at Donelson Elementary School alerted the state Department of Children’s Services to possible abuse after the girl wrote a story for the class about a fight between her parents that ended with shots. “Mother and father quarreled. Mom told her to get away from her because she was smoking too much. The father hit the mother in the eye. Mom said look what you’ve done,” the girl wrote. Mom got the gun out from under the bed. I was in the living room and my sisters and brother were in the bedroom. The mother pointed the gun at her father and fired three times. The bullets hit the wall. The mother told her to sleep in her car in the driveway and not to come back from her or she would shoot him again.”

When police arrived at Johnson’s home, they found her locked outside her home while her 1-year-old and 4-year-old children were inside, police told WREG. Police opened the garage door and firefighters checked on the two boys, who appeared to be fine after spending an hour and a half alone inside. Agents noted multiple bullet holes in the living room, bedroom, and hallway walls. Johnson admitted to shooting her husband at least twice, but she told police it was only after he entered her home without her permission and then hit her with a vacuum cleaner.
Police said she had a cut and bruise around her right eye. Johnson said three of her children were on the couch and the fourth was in the bathroom when she fired the gun. Her husband was not injured. Two firearms were seized from the home. Two of her children were taken into custody by her grandmother and two others are with her aunt. Johnson has been released from jail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 23, WREG reported.
