At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, the gunman opened fire from a vehicle onto a crowd of people in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Stubbe, 17, was shot and murdered, and five others were taken to the hospital. The victims, ages 17 to 21, had been at a major party in Chico, some 90 miles north of Sacramento, earlier that night. Lt. Terry Tupper of the Chico Police Department said officers were still looking for a motive. The actual shooting was not random,’ he claimed, though it’s unclear whether any of the victims were specifically targeted.

Stubbe’s close family friend has set up a GoFundMe page. No parent should ever have to go through the sorrow of losing their baby,’ Jackie Wilson wrote. Everyone wants to know how they can assist the family. Right now, the only option is to give. Funerals are expensive, and this family is already in mourning.’ The fundraiser had received $4,565 in donations as of Sunday afternoon.
Another 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old male were sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a 19-year-old guy is in stable condition. An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were both released from the hospital.

Police quickly announced that the gunshot was an ‘isolated event,’ and that there was no threat to the community. Investigators are ‘aggressively following some substantial leads’ in their hunt for a culprit. Police apprehended someone in possession of a firearm in connection with a second incident that occurred several hours earlier at another home party in the vicinity.
A second person was detained at the second party in Chico and arrested for firearm possession and reckless discharge. Chico’s chaotic night culminated in the horrific shooting. Chico Police Chief Bill Aldridge said officers were called to the same location shortly before 3 a.m. when a brawl broke out when a party member was asked to leave. Two victims were allegedly attacked during the fight. ‘One was allegedly hit over the head with a handgun, and the other was allegedly smashed over the head with a glass bottle,’ Aldridge explained.
