Justin Owen, sprint car racer of Harrison, Ohio, passed away from wounds sustained when his vehicle collided during a race in southeast Indiana, the U.S. Auto Club reported. At Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night during a qualification race for the AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship, Owen’s car slammed into the outside wall and flipped many times in the third turn, according to USAC.

Owen won two features at Lawrenceburg Speedway
Following the incident, USAC decided to call off the rest of the race. According to USAC, the 26-year-old Owen won two features at Lawrenceburg Speedway and was the current track champion in 2022. It was Owen’s first victory at the 3/8-mile dirt circuit, where he had previously raced in the sprint car class. One of his greatest triumphs came in the season-ending Dick Gaines Memorial during the 2022 Lawrenceburg championship campaign, according to USAC. In 2019, Owen won three races: the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series at Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania (his second win thereafter one in 2016); the Paragon Speedway in Indiana; and the Night of Champions competition in Lawrenceburg. In 2019 and 2021, Owen had two feature debuts with USAC, all at Lawrenceburg.
