A Virginia family is in mourning after their 13-year-old son, Josué Nolasco, suffocated to death in his school cafeteria. Nexstar’s WRIC spoke with Nolasco’s family, who described him as a nice guy who was always willing to help. Nolasco was rushed to a Richmond hospital on Wednesday, February 15, after experiencing a medical emergency.
Nolasco died over the weekend, according to WWBT. Lee Harvey, the boy’s father, said: “He was too good for this world” adding: “He was always kind. He was always polite.” On Wednesday, February 15, Providence High School frantically called Josué’s parents to inform them that Josué’s son had choked on his lunch and was going to be taken to the hospital, Sacbee reported. He apparently choked on a meatball.

Now, Josué’s relatives tell the media that they hope to find out what happened. They said, “We want people to know this story, mainly because of this pain that we feel, we don’t want anyone else to go through this,” Harvey told WTVR. “We need people who are capable in school to be able to have some kind of training and know what to do in these types of emergencies,” Newsobserver reports. The family told WRIC that the memories of Josué are what will keep them going. Josué’s mother said: “I feel so empty without you,” reported Fox59.
Providence Middle School Principal’s Statement
On the evening of Tuesday, February 21, Providence High School Principal MJ Rodney sent out an alert to families. The statement read: “We will keep the family in our thoughts during this difficult time.” The statement further added: “If this is a conversation you would like to have with your son at home tonight, we want to support the conversation as you speak with his son to reassure and support him as part of the grieving process.” ”, according to reports.
Community members have made it a habit to leave notes of condolences and encouragement at the family’s front door. The community has also contributed more than $8,000 to Joshua’s memorial. Chesterfield County Public Schools will provide students with support services.
