Jordan McSweeney Wiki – Jordan McSweeney Biography

Jordan McSweeney, 30, is seeking a reduction of his minimum 38-year sentence for murder and sexual assault. McSweeney, who attacked the law graduate in Ilford, east London, had been released from prison on license nine days before the murder in June 2022. He appeared at the start of the proceedings via video link from Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire. But after about 45 minutes, the hearing stopped and McSweeney left. An unnamed prison officer, who appeared on video link with the inmate, told the court: “He has heard enough and has everything he needs in his cell.” At the beginning of the hearing, McSweeney’s lawyer, George Carter-Stephenson KC, said the sentencing judge, Judge Cheema-Grubb, had wrongly taken into account the “aggravating features” of the case. Carter-Stephenson said it was accepted the crime was sexually motivated but argued the murder of Aleena, 35, was not premeditated.

Investigation Report

He told the court: “The attack was an opportunistic act and not something planned in advance.” Carter-Stephenson also argued that McSweeney’s ADHD should have been taken into account when he was sentenced in December. However, Oliver Glasgow KC, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said the suggestion that McSweeney had no intention of killing Aleena was “untenable”. He told the court that McSweeney had spent two hours harassing several women before turning his attention to Aleena. The lawyer said: “This was not a moment of impulsive aggression. It was a considered act and the product of hours of chasing women through the streets.” Glasgow added that McSweeney had expressed no remorse and noted that he had not attended his sentencing and walked out of his appeal hearing. The lawyer described the attack as “completely abhorrent” and said the sentencing judge had been right to determine that McSweeney had no mitigation other than his guilty pleas. Chief Justice Lady Carr, Justice McGowan and Justice Ellenbogen said their decision would be given in writing “as soon as possible”.
