New court documents detail horrifying allegations of abuse against 3-year-old Nehemiah. ABC13 tried to talk to Fowler as he was leaving jail on Monday, but he got in a car and drove off. The 22-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, all while the 3-year-old boy is making a miraculous recovery from traumatic injuries.
Fowler is not the father of little Nehemiah, but court documents indicate that he is the boyfriend of Jasmine Salas, the boy’s mother. She is also accused of injuring a child. She remains in jail on $150,000 bail. The abuse allegations date back to January 25, 2023.

Investigation Report – accused of beating his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son into a coma, due in court after posting bail
Houston police detectives learned after interviewing Salas that Fowler allegedly kicked Nehemiah in the stomach and held him by the throat after the 3-year-old went to the bathroom on the floor. The mother reportedly witnessed the abuse and did not call the police. A few days later, the abuse continued, with Salas saying the boy was in another accident and Fowler took him to the bathroom and closed the door for 10 minutes, according to court documents.
The mom says that she sounded like the child was being hit behind the closed door. Nehemiah reportedly did not receive medical attention until his mother said he couldn’t take care of himself and that he was “acting strange.” Once hospitalized, this child was in a coma for several days as he struggled to survive. Nehemiah’s older brother told authorities during an interview that his mother said Nehemiah had died.

The boy and his 5-year-old brother are now in the care of his great-aunt, who told ABC13 that she is upset by how the boy was treated. That’s cruel. You can’t call yourself a mother. You can’t call yourself a mother to do that,” Emma Schiefer said. Nehemiah woke up from his coma and is alert, but he still can’t walk or talk, the family said. Doctors said Nehemiah was severely malnourished, along with widespread abuse. His family is hopeful that he will continue to recover.
