Suspect Jordan Fineanganofo A 21-year-old man has been accused of stabbing to death a young paramedic in front of a McDonald’s.
Steven Tougher, 29, was nearing the end of his shift when he sat down in the back of his ambulance on Queen St in the south-western Sydney suburb of Campbelltown at 5.30 a.m. on Friday. During his food break, a man allegedly wrenched open the rear doors, stabbed Mr. Tougher many times, and fled. He was sent to Liverpool Hospital in severe condition, but he died later.
Jordan Fineanganofo, 21, was detained on the spot and transported to the Campbelltown Police Station, where he was later charged. On Saturday morning, Fineanganofo appeared at Parramatta Local Court. He did not apply for bail, and the case was postponed until June 28. Outside of court, his lawyer, Javid Faiz, revealed that the 21-year-old is currently hospitalized due to mental health difficulties.
Mr. Faiz stated that Fineanganofo is aware of the gravity of the offense he is accused of. ‘I’ve outlined the transgressions, and he understands the significance,’ Mr. Faiz said. ‘Currently, cops are stationed at my client’s bedside, and he is suffering from a mental health problem.’ Fineanganofo is said to live in Sydney’s southwest with his parents.

In Australia, tributes have been paid to the paramedic who died in the line of duty
Mr. Tougher, a newlywed whose wife is expecting their second child in a few weeks, has been praised as a ‘wonderful soul’ by friends and family. A GoFundMe effort for his young family has already garnered more than $120,000.
On Friday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese paid homage to Mr. Tougher on Twitter, calling his death ‘as shocking as it is heartbreaking.’
Mr. Tougher, according to NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, ‘wanted nothing more than to serve his community.’ As he acknowledged the deceased, NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce sobbed. I’d want to express my sympathies to the paramedic’s wife and family,’ she said.
NSW Premier Chris Minns described the stabbing as an ‘awful circumstance’ for the entire paramedic community. ‘It serves as a reminder that it is a difficult and dangerous profession,’ Mr. Minns added.

Mr. Tougher was said to be nearing the conclusion of a long night shift and finishing paperwork in the back of his van in the McDonald’s parking lot when a stranger allegedly came at him with a knife and repeatedly stabbed him in the stomach. Mr. Tougher and his colleague had ‘worked hard all night’ and were now taking a food break. The devastating news comes only five weeks after Mr. Tougher married Madison, the love of his life, who is expecting their second child in the coming weeks.
Excited family members posted videos and images of the joyful bride and groom on social media on their wedding day, utterly unknowing that disaster was about to strike. Mr. and Mrs. Tougher,’ the groom joyfully announced the next day. The pair can be seen doing their wedding waltz, celebrating with loved ones, and dancing with guests in footage and images. ‘We couldn’t be happier for our kid on his wedding day,’ his mother wrote at the time. ‘What a wonderful day!’
Tougher’s untimely passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from bereaved friends and colleagues, as well as expressions of support for his wife and family. In memory of the fallen paramedic, several people have altered their profile pictures to the NSW Ambulance logo encircled by angel wings. ‘It’s not fair. Life is far too brief.
After the attack
In the hours following the attack, NSW Ambulance Commissioner Dominic Morgan met with Madison, as well as Mr. Tougher’s mother, father, and sister, and stated that they are “beyond themselves.” He claimed Mr. Tougher’s father informed him when he was five years old that he wanted to be a paramedic. ‘All he wanted was to help his community,’ Commissioner Morgan said. ‘He’d only been with us for a short time and had recently learned that he’d been transferred back to southwest Sydney.’I’m told he was overjoyed at the prospect of being able to raise his family here.’
Commissioner Morgan also expressed condolences to Mr. Tougher’s family and coworkers. I admire the way (Mr. Tougher’s family) is dealing with their loss, and I wish the best for the man’s paramedic colleagues, who worked tirelessly to resuscitate and preserve their paramedic colleague’s life – regrettably, it was not to be,’ he said.
