Jok Gar Wiki – Jok Gar Biography
Jok Gar, 20, appeared in Melbourne County Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to robbery and reckless wounding. Judge Frances Hogan lashed out at Geelong West’s Gar, saying the behavior was “cowardly” and showed a complete “lack of empathy”. “It is an appalling offense that directly affects the safety of people in our community to walk the streets alone at night – it is simply horrible,” she said, The Geelong Advertiser reports. The court heard Gar and his co-accused Tyler Da Silva approached a complete stranger at the intersection of Spring St and Victoria Pde in central Melbourne on September 6, 2022.
Jok Gar is 20 years old.
When the man refused to hand over his wallet and his phone, the two men allegedly attacked him. “During the attack, the complainant was slashed with a knife, causing a cut to his right cheek and partially amputating his right earlobe,” Crown prosecutor Matthew Cookson said. Gar is not accused of having the knife or being an accessory to the use of the blade in the attack. But the court heard the victim was knocked unconscious when Gar, who was born in Egypt and emigrated to Australia with his family when he was six, punched him. The couple then took the man’s phone and left him lying on the street bleeding. Police later found the pair at around 4.30am in the Southern Cross train station toilets and Gar’s defense lawyer claimed he was under the influence of drugs that night. Co-accused Da Silva will appear in court next week to plead guilty to armed robbery and causing malicious wounding. Gar will reappear for sentencing at a later date.
