Johntae was identified by the family as the victim. On a GoFundMe page, Johntae’s sister, Janayea Hudson, recalled her brother as the most loving and caring person with her family and friends. She added that Johntae radiated fun, and positive energy and his smile lit up the room” and were “an overall great person.” Janayea also said that she and her family now “want to give her the funeral she deserves.

Johntae Hudson Killed in Mall of America shooting, Five Suspects Arrested
On Saturday, five people were arrested, Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges announced in a Facebook post. Two of the suspects are adult men and three are young men, authorities said. All five suspects were booked on second-degree murder charges, and the two adult men have been identified as Taeshawn Adams Wright and Deandre Antioun Depratto. It is not immediately clear if any of the suspects have pleaded guilty or hired lawyers.
The Bloomington Police Department told multiple outlets Friday that officers in the area responded after hearing gunshots on the first floor of the Mall of America’s Nordstrom store just before 8 p.m. local time. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man had been shot multiple times and a bystander’s jacket had been grazed by a bullet, Hodges said during a news conference Friday night, CNN and the Associated Press report.
The police chief said the shooting occurred as an altercation escalated between a group of five to nine people. He added that the shooting itself lasted 30 seconds, multiple outlets reported. A lockdown was put in place at the mall after the shooting until around 9:10 p.m. on Friday, at which point the mall announced on Twitter that all guests should leave and that it would close for the night. The investigation is ongoing.
