Johnson Kokozian, a young father has been refused bail over an alleged high-speed crash, which claimed the lives of a brother and sister.

Alina Kauffman, 24, and her brother Ernesto Salazer, 15, were killed when a supposedly stolen Mercedes crossed onto the wrong side of the road to collide with their Toyota Echo at Heckenberg, south-west of Sydney, at 9.20pm. Friday. Johnson Kokozian, 20, allegedly told police he was the front-seat passenger of the Mercedes registered to his father. Parramatta Bail Court heard on Sunday that numerous witnesses alleged Kokozian was the driver. After hitting the Toyota, the Mercedes skidded into a stopped Toyota RAV4 before rolling onto its side. The two occupants of the RAV4 were uninjured. Kokozian and two other people allegedly got out of the wrecked Mercedes and got into another car to drive away without attempting to help the brothers who were fatally injured in the Echo. Magistrate Rob Rabbidge said he was satisfied Kokozian was the driver of the Mercedes in what he called a “dreadful situation” as he refused bail, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The court heard police had visited Kokozian’s father’s home after the accident to alert him. The court heard the man allegedly claimed the car had been stolen. Kokozian, who has a son, was supported by his girlfriend and his father in court. Angelina Kauffman, mother of Alina and Ernesto, said her two beautiful children “did not deserve to die.” She said Alina had just picked Ernesto up from his new job at a Kmart just 200 meters from her family’s home. Alina called me and said, “Mom, I picked up my brother, let’s go get some food and then we’ll come home,” Angelina told the Daily Telegraph. ‘I said, “Are you okay?” and they said “yes mommy.”‘ When they couldn’t return home, Kauffman and one of her other children used an app to find the wrecked car. ‘The police came and told me that my children had died. My beautiful children,” she said through tears. Alina was a nurse who worked with seniors, while Ernesto hoped to save money from the Kmart job to buy his first car. ‘He was the kindest and sweetest boy, he didn’t have a bad bone in his body. ‘Alina was so beautiful.
