Johnathan Solarte, 37, who was previously the lead sports anchor for Univision, shot the male relative, Ricardo Escobar Cardona, 35, during an argument in a Corpus Christi home around midnight on July 3, KRIS 6 News reported. Solarte flagged down responding officers when they arrived on the scene, the outlet said, citing the official police report. “I called Jonathan and he told me that he needed to come in to help someone. I asked him who the shooter was and he said he was the shooter,” a responding officer said. Inside the home, authorities found a woman crying for Cardona, who had a gunshot wound to the left side of her chest. The victim was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where she later died of her injuries, mySanAntonio reported. Solarte was arrested at the scene, authorities said. He was released from the Nueces County Jail on a $300,000 bond Wednesday. He told police that he was “trying to defend himself and was struggling with Ricardo at the time he was shot,” KRIS 6 said. “Jonathan also stated that Ricardo broke into his home and started threatening him,” the report continues.
