John Yuill and Lamara Bell Wiki – Biography

John Yuill, 28, and his girlfriend Lamara Bell, 25, died after their car left the road near Stirling in July 2015. It took officers three days to visit the accident scene after that a farmer reported the accident. Mr Yuill had died and Mrs Bell was seriously injured. She later died in the hospital. Police Scotland has already admitted that flaws in its call handling system “contributed materially” to Bell’s death. There have already been several investigations into what went wrong in the incident. A police officer at the Bilston Glen call handling center was found to have failed to record a report from a farmer into an IT system.

He had alerted officers that there was a car at the foot of an embankment on the M9, near Stirling. The case was referred to the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (Pirc) and an independent review of call handling in Police Scotland’s contact, command and control division produced 30 recommendations to improve the service. In September 2021, police were fined £100,000 after they pleaded guilty to a charge under the Health and Safety Act and admitted “corporate criminal liability”. The then chief constable Sir Iain Livingstone apologized “unreservedly” on behalf of police in Scotland. Two months later, it was announced that Bell’s family would receive more than £1 million in compensation from Police Scotland.

We are without a daughter and sister and their children are without a mother.” The FAI will determine the cause of the deaths and the circumstances in which they occurred.
