Joanne Moran, a woman who fatally stabbed her partner in the heart, was found guilty of murder. Joanne Moran, of Bridge Road in Litherland, was unanimously convicted of murdering Jonathan Gibbons at Liverpool Crown Court this Wednesday afternoon. Wearing a black jumper and blonde hair tied up in a bun, the 43-year-old showed no reaction when the verdict was delivered after two hours and 53 minutes by a jury of eight men and four women.
Gibbons’ family members were heard saying “yes” when she was found guilty. A woman supporting Moran from the public gallery began to sob after the killer was brought to her cells, while a man consoling her said “s***” under his breath. Liverpool Judge’s Honorary Recorder Andrew Menary KC thanked the jury. for his service in what he described as a “tragic case, whichever way you look at it.” He will pronounce the sentence later today.

An earlier trial heard that on October 30, 2022, at around 4:45 a.m., emergency services received a phone call from Moran reporting that a man had been stabbed to death and that the caller was requesting assistance to attend his home. on Bridge Road. Mr. Gibbons and the defendant had been in a relationship since 2016 and had lived at the address for about four years, where they had been playing cards and drinking since 3:00 p.m. m. the previous day. Moran called the police after she stabbed Mr. Gibbons with a small black-handled knife after an argument between the two drunken men. She told officers “I just stabbed my partner” and repeatedly said “I’m sorry” immediately after the incident. In an interview, she said that she had “scratched” her victim during or after arguments on previous occasions and that he held her to stop her.
When police asked if Mr. Gibbons had ever assaulted or hit her, she said no, saying he was “cool”; she later referred to herself as “just a cow”. Moran also said that she “hadn’t painted herself in a very good way” and claimed that her boyfriend had assaulted her and given her a black eye twice. She added: “I don’t always put my hands on her. “If we argue, we argue, but it doesn’t always end up hitting him. I’m not that bad.” Moran admitted that she stabbed Gibbons to death, but during the trial, she claimed that, although it was a deliberate physical act, she was to move “in her space, not her body.” She said, “I moved the knife like this, I didn’t go to stab John.” The killer repeatedly claimed during the trial that she did not remember raising the knife or deciding to stab Mr. Gibbons, and she claimed that she never intended to stab him.
