Jeanne Roblez Howell, an Arizona woman, was found dead in Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park after going for a hike and never returning, authorities say. Jeanne Roblez Howell, 64, was reported missing Friday after she failed to return from her 2 p.m. appointment hike the Fairyland Loop trail, the National Park Service said. NPS, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Department of Public Safety searched the area and found the Sedona native around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning in Campbell Canyon, one mile east of the Fairyland Loop.

Cause of Death
Howell was pronounced dead at the scene. The Campbell County Medical Examiner has yet to determine a cause of death, but NPS noted that a thunderstorm dumped heavy rain in the area Friday afternoon. Flash flooding in dry washes was reported along the 8-mile trail, NPS said. “This is a tragic event and our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim,” said Allana Olbrich, interim Bryce Canyon superintendent. Bryce Canyon National Park, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, is located about four hours northeast of Las Vegas.
