Jasper Kraus Wiki – Bio

Jasper Kraus, a cancer survivor living in Ballinasloe, tragically died on April 28, 2021, after being attacked by a Brahma chicken.

The 67-year-old man, originally from The Hague, Netherlands, reportedly suffered a heart attack after the violent bird drove its spur into his leg, causing him to lose a large amount of blood. Authorities and his daughter, Virginia Guinan, found Kraus lying in a pool of his own blood from the fatal wound behind his leg. Despite emergency services performing CPR on him, he died.

Age

Jasper Kraus was 67 years old.

Irish man in Killahornia dies after being attacked by ‘aggressive’ chicken

Guinan, 33, told the inquest into her father’s death how she rushed into the house to find him in a pool of blood with ambulance crews already at the scene, according to the Irish Mirror. She said she had been contacted by Corey O’Keeffe, her father’s tenant, who had been living with him for two years and cared for the animals. On the morning of April 28, O’Keeffe returned home from a night shift and greeted Kraus before going to bed. Soon after, the tenant woke up to Kraus yelling “come quick.”

The inquest heard that O’Keeffe performed CPR on Kraus for 25 minutes before an ambulance arrived at the scene. He said blood was coming from the victim’s leg and he noticed a large gash on the man’s calf and scratches on the other leg. Losing and losing consciousness, Kraus whispered to his tenant: “Rooster.” However, he eventually lost so much blood that he had a heart attack.

unusual suspect

Addressing the investigation, Dr. Annette Jennings said paramedics were trying to resuscitate Kraus when he arrived on the scene in Killahornia, County Roscommon. Despite his best efforts, he was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m. m. Jennings said the circumstances surrounding the man’s death were unusual considering the fatal wound was inflicted by a chicken. Dr. Ramadan Shatwan, who carried out the autopsy, noted that Kraus’s face was covered in dried blood, but no cuts were found. Meanwhile, his lower limbs were also covered in dried blood. Shatwan concluded that the cause of death was a lethal cardiac arrhythmia in the setting of severe coronary atheroma and cardiomegaly.

Guinan recalled paramedics giving her father CPR as she lay in a pool of blood. She told the inquest that she followed the blood trail to the Brahma chicken, which apparently had blood on its claws. The heartbroken daughter said that she immediately knew the bird was to blame because it had previously attacked her daughter. She noted that she had wanted to get rid of the chicken ever since that incident, but her animal-loving father wanted to keep it regardless. “My dad protested: he had too big a heart and he didn’t want me to get rid of the rooster, so dad took it,” Guinan told the court.

Health problems

Kraus was the father of two children and had two grandchildren. According to reports, he was suffering from a series of health problems at the time of his death. The coroner said he was in remission from his cancer and his heart was “severely calcified.” He was outside visiting the grave of his beloved dog when he was attacked. Guinan said at the inquest that the family knew her father’s heart “was wrong.” She recalled having to clean up her father’s blood in the house after the attack and called for more support for families who have to go through such tragedies. Furthermore, she also warned others about the dangers of raising chickens, even breeds considered safe like Brahma. “People should watch for signals and get rid of any bird as soon as it shows signs of aggression,” Guinan said in the inquiry, as quoted by The Mirror.
