Jasmine Hartin, 34, a Canadian socialite, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by negligence in connection with the shooting of a police superintendent in Belize.
The former partner of Conservative grandee Lord Ashcroft’s son Andrew filed the petition at Belize City’s Supreme Court over the death of 42-year-old Henry Jemmott. Her trial was scheduled to begin today. I just want Henry’s family to have peace now, and I want this whole thing behind all of us so we can heal,” Hartin said outside the court, according to Channel 5 Belize news. According to the station, Hartin asked the court for a sentencing indication, and the judge stated that she may be given a non-custodial punishment, which would be a fine and/or compensation to the family.

Socialite Jasmine Hartin pleads guilty to fatal shooting of top Belizean police officer
In May 2021, Hartin was discovered on a dock near where the body of Superintendent Jemmott was recovered in the town of San Pedro after allegations of a gunshot. According to Police Commissioner Chester C Williams, a single gunshot was reported, and “after investigating, police found the female on a pier, with what appeared to be blood on her arms and on her clothing.” He also stated that a firearm belonging to and assigned to the father-of-five was recovered from the dock.
According to police, Hartin and Mr. Jemmott were buddies. Orson ‘OJ’ Elrington, Hartin’s attorney, told reporters that his client’s major worry was “not putting the family of the victim through the anguish of having to go through a trial proceeding,” and that she “consistently expressed her concern about that.” According to Channel 5 Belize, the punishment hearing is scheduled for May 31. It was also reported that Mr. Elrington stated that because Hartin chose to plead guilty, the court is expected to follow through on his promise to give her a non-custodial sentence.
