Jarrad Nathan, During a standoff with authorities, a shooter invaded the Fox News headquarters in Memphis and shot an AR-15 before fleeing to the lavatory of a nearby restaurant.
Jarrad Nathan, 26, appeared at the FOX13 offices and claimed to have received a word from God regarding the January murder of Tyre Nichols in Memphis. He then shot a round through a ballistic glass door that requires a keycard to access, striking the front desk. The incident occurred about 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, and Nathan was apprehended around two hours later. Nathan, a mental health sufferer, then dashed to a local Ubee’s restaurant, where he posted a now-deleted Facebook Live video showing himself locked inside.
After his mother, Marsha McKinney was brought to the scene to assist with negotiations, police were able to de-escalate the situation and detain Nathan. Nathan was charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in court on Wednesday. Surveillance footage from inside the Fox office shows Nathan firing a round through the door, leading panicked receptionists to run. In an unsuccessful attempt to gain entry, he begins kicking and pulling on the door.

Shooting at a TV station: Jarrad Nathan Arrested
Nathan was dropped off at the station in a grey SUV and walked with a limp toward the building, according to surveillance footage from outside the building. He is seen clutching what appears to be a handgun in his right hand. Fox employees were evacuated from the building while the incident unfolded but was allowed back in 30 minutes later after Nathan barricaded himself in the restaurant. The main road running through the neighborhood was also closed. After the shot was fired, Fox13 production manager Ron Crawford ran into Nathan outside the station.
‘God’s instructed me that I need to send a message to the world,’ the gunman said. He asked to enter the station, Crawford explained, adding, ‘I said no, you can’t come in, but I can take your message. I observed that he still had the weapon on him,’ Crawford explained. Some more people came out of our newsroom doors into the lobby area and yelled get away from him, he shot into the building’, claimed one of the witnesses. Nathan recorded himself shouting at authorities during the 16-minute Facebook Live clip from inside the restaurant, which has since been deleted: ‘I need to talk to the news people!’ He also ignored police efforts to surrender his handgun. He was apprehended around 1.30 p.m.
Authorities are now investigating how Nathan obtained the firearm. His Facebook page, Jay Nathan, shows him posing with a variety of weaponry, including an AR-15-style rifle and a pistol. It’s unknown if the firearm was used in the incident. McKinney stated that her son has struggled with mental health issues since he was a child and that he was shot eight times two months ago. He’s one of the nicest, kindest (guys), but everyone has a dark side,’ she explained. I believe my son is crying out for attention because he requires assistance.’ His mother is going to get him some help today,’ she told Fox13. This exemplifies why his father should have been present. You show your sons how to be men. They require their fathers… As a parent, it has not been an easy road.’ At the scene, the gunman’s father and stepmother also spoke with authorities. Nathan is being put in jail on a $275,000 bond. He stated that he could not afford a bond and that he is “dead broke.” In a wheelchair, he appeared in court. When he was arrested, there were no injuries, according to police.
