Jamie Sansom, a maths teacher in his late twenties was stabbed by a student this morning at a secondary school in Gloucestershire.
A teenager was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident at a school in Tewkesbury, police said. Officers were called to the scene at Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire town on Monday morning after the teacher was believed to have been stabbed. The teacher, known locally as Jamie Sansom, was rushed to the hospital with a stab wound where he is said to be in stable condition. Armed officers invaded the scene this morning following reports that a teacher was stabbed. Earlier today, Principal Kathleen McGillycuddy said: “We appreciate that this morning has been a worrying time for everyone associated with Tewkesbury Academy. We are writing to assure you that all students remain safe and sound.
“We were alerted shortly before 9 a.m. this morning on reports of a serious incident which left a male staff member in need of hospital treatment. The school was closed and the police were called immediately when we found out about this incident. Since then, we have been following the advice of the police on when and how to share updates with you. “In the last few minutes, police have arrested a teenager in connection with this incident. Along with advice from the police, the lockdown remains in place as a precaution. We hope to be able to provide a further update once cleared by the police in the near future. “Thank you for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.”

Tewkesbury school stabbing
Pupils were sent home from school around 1:30 p.m. when the lockdown was lifted when the emergency came to an end. One parent told the Telegraph: “Thank God it’s all over. I hope Mr. Sansom turns out well. He is a wonderful teacher and I wish him a speedy recovery.” In an update, a school spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9 am today, staff were alerted to a serious incident which left a male staff member in need of hospital treatment. School leaders immediately contacted the police and closed the site in accordance with our robust safeguarding procedures.
“Police were on site throughout the morning and stood by us to ensure students were kept safe and secure while the incident was investigated. Officers have since arrested a teenager in connection with this incident. We will now follow instructions from the police on how to ease the lockdown before letting students go home. “A decision has not yet been made on when the school will reopen, but we will develop plans to support our students and staff in the wake of this incident. We are grateful to all of our staff, parents, and students for their patience and understanding during what has been a difficult morning, as our thoughts are with our injured colleague; We wish him a speedy and successful recovery.” A spokesman for the force added: “An adult was taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound following an incident at Tewkesbury School.” A teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
