Married James Stromfield, 39, who taught at a secondary school in Sussex, devised a s*x game for the 15-year-old pupil to play at home while his wife was away. He wrote 12 sexual challenges, such as “remove an article of clothing” or “kiss each other,” on a piece of paper. The teacher then took out a pair of dice and told him to roll them with the number corresponding to a sexual loss. The game of sexual challenges in February ended when he pulled her into her bed and sexually assaulted her. Last week, Stromfield was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of inciting sexual activity with a child. The victim, through tears, said she had felt “disgusted” and “disgusted” by his actions and that she was “completely devastated.”
Reading a statement to the court, she sobbed as she told how her life had been destroyed and how she had been left suffering “flashbacks and nightmares” from her ordeal. She said: “James Stromfield’s actions have affected me and my daily life in a way that I would not wish on anyone.” I feel like a part of me died on February 27th. ‘He was keeping a big secret from me and it was destroying me day by day.’ She said: ‘I wasn’t the one who should have known better. Stromfield is now 39 years old. “It has taken away many meaningful experiences that teenage girls should be able to feel. “He scratched my skin because I no longer felt like I belonged after being touched by him.” Hove Crown Court heard the girl had been a pupil at a secondary school where Stromfield taught maths.

When the teenager began to suffer problems at home, she spoke frequently with the teacher and came to trust him. The principal was forced to intervene and formally warned Stromfield that he should have no further contact with the student. But Stromfield downloaded an app, Proton, that automatically deletes messages, and continued contacting the girl using it. Orlando Gibbons, prosecuting, said: ‘The victim initially saw him as a friend, a father figure and also a teacher. Over time, the messages he sent her became flirtatious and sexual, which she found a little creepy. The court heard she put up with the messages because she did not want to lose the teacher’s support and friendship. When his wife was away, Stromfield arranged for the girl to come to her home in West Sussex. The couple played the sexual loses game before lying down on the bed where the sexual activity was taking place.
However, her then-boyfriend had tracked the girl to the address using the Snapchat app. Stromfield was arrested by police on suspicion of child abduction, but declined to comment. He was released on bail with strict instructions not to contact the victim. Stromfield ignored bail conditions and the couple met again at his home in February while his wife was away. They went to an upstairs guest room, where her sexual activity once again took place before he took her back to her car. The girl’s father found handwritten notes from the teacher to the teenager in her bag. The note read: “I’m sorry to hear things were difficult for you, I hope it helps. I’m thinking and I miss you.” If you would like to meet at some time, please see the instructions on the back. I’ll be there every day at 11:00 in case you show up. A second note read: “I miss you so much and being apart is really hard.” If you want to come see me, come alone and be 100 percent sure you won’t be tracked. I love you so much Xx.’
Two days later the victim returned to her house and went to her guest room where he raped her. However, the police had already been called and she showed up at the house while the victim and the teacher were naked in bed. Stromfield ordered her to quickly get dressed before opening the door. Police found the victim curled up on the floor of the guest room and the professor was arrested once again. He was charged with a series of serious sexual offenses, including rape, attempted rape and sexual activity with a child. Jailing him Recorder Quincy Whittaker said: ‘You groomed the victim. Her behavior was abusive, exploitative and harmful to her. He said the teenager had suffered “psychological trauma” that could last her entire life. Recorder Whittaker said that through “distorted and dysfunctional thinking” Stromfield had managed to convince himself that her sexual attention was somehow helping the girl with her problems at home and her self-esteem. She told Stromfield he must serve at least eight years before being considered for parole and ordered him to pay his victim £5,000 compensation.
