James Hobson, 33, the suspect who killed taxi driver Malik Ameer Abbas in a head-on car crash has been jailed.
James Hobson was speeding and on the wrong side of the road when he crashed into the VW of Malik Ameer Abbas in Marton, Middlesbrough, in March 2022, Cleveland police said. Hobson was jailed for seven years and four months at Teesside Crown Court after admitting he caused the death by dangerous driving. Abbas’s family said his death had broken their hearts. Intelligence Inspector Peter Carr said Hobson was seriously injured in the crash but was “very lucky” not to die. Unfortunately, Mr. Abbas’s family now has to live without their loved one for the rest of their lives as a result of Hobson’s actions,” Carr said.

Suspect jailed in Malik Ameer Abbas murder
In a statement, Abbas’s family said the 27-year-old moved to the UK in 2013 to support his family in Pakistan. They said, “He had always taken care of everyone. He had many plans and goals to accomplish and he was an honest and hard-working person. No one and nothing can fill the void that he has left in our hearts and our family because of his tragic death. As a family, our hearts have been broken and we will never get over this.” Hobson was also banned from driving for 11 years and eight months.
