Jake Smith, 17, a body found in the River Thames in Gloucestershire has been identified as that of the missing youngster over the bank holiday weekend.
Jake Smith of Swindon, went missing on Sunday evening after playing in the river near Lechlade-on-Thames with some pals. He didn’t come back up after falling into the sea. Some of those with him went into the water to look for Jake and emergency services were called in to help with the search. Jake’s body was discovered in the river by specialist divers yesterday (1 May), according to authorities.

Jake’s family made a statement in response to his death. We, unfortunately, lost Jake in a tragic accident,” they said. The outpouring of love and support that we have received has been overwhelming. “All of Jake’s family and friends will miss him.” “We would like to thank the emergency services, the community, and especially The Riverside (accommodation, bar, and restaurant) for their kindness and support.”
They also urged others to be more cautious around water, stating, “Although this was a tragic accident, we urge people to stop and think before jumping into the river.” “At this time, his death is not being treated as suspicious,” a Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman stated, “and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
