A 17-year-old Jack Snyder Michigan honor student was killed by two younger boys after leaving a birthday party and offering them a ride home to get out of the cold, authorities said.
Jack Snyder had just left his girlfriend’s birthday party on February 17 in Battle Creek when he offered two boys, ages 14 and 13, a ride in sub-zero temperatures, according to WZZM-13. He did not know the youths, who allegedly attempted to hijack Snyder’s car, then fatally shot him when he resisted, authorities said.

The Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office charged 14-year-old Judge Chimner as an adult with felony murder, carjacking and two weapons-related violations, Fox-17 reported. He faces life in prison. The 13-year-old suspect, who was not publicly identified, was charged with manslaughter, first-degree felony murder, and auto theft. Both teens are being held without bail at a juvenile detention center. Snyder’s desire to help teens led to his death, Battle Creek Police Sgt. Jeff Case said, according to the Daily Mail.
The victim was trying to be a good Samaritan by taking them in the freezing temperatures,” he said. “I know that he resisted the carjacking. So again, he was trying to help, but he wasn’t just going to deliver the car.” Snyder, a senior at Battle Creek Central High School, was a “cheerful, charismatic, athletic and humorous” student-athlete who was a member of the National Honor Society and played college football, according to his obituary.
