Isiah Johnson victim name identified – A 16-month-old boy was fatally shot Tuesday by his 5-year-old brother, who found a gun inside an apartment in northwest Indiana, authorities said.
Little Isiah Johnson was killed with a single shot at the home in the city of Lafayette, Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello confirmed. An adult was home when the 5-year-old boy apparently found the gun and opened fire around 3 p.m. There was an adult and two children inside the apartment,” Lafayette police Lt. Matt Gard told the Journal & Courier. A person outside the apartment called 911 and reported that a child was not breathing.

When officers arrived at the scene, nothing could be done to save the boy, police said. When I arrived on the scene, I don’t believe any lifesaving measures were taken,” Gard said. It is unclear if the adult inside the apartment was related to the children. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday and the case remains under investigation by Lafayette police. When the investigation is complete, officials said the case will be forwarded to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review to determine if charges can be filed. Lafayette is located about 60 miles north of Indianapolis.
