Isaiah Gonzalez and Kyle Matthews, both 21, face murder and weapons charges in the death of DeAndre Carter on August 21 in the village of Valley Stream, New York, police said. Gonzalez has an outstanding warrant in Nassau County for criminal possession of a controlled substance from May 3, 2021, police said. Police said Matthews had several prior arrests and should not have been on the streets. “This individual should have been in jail, this senseless murder would not have happened, and the other three victims who were shot and injured because this bad guy was still on the streets, that’s what we have to stop,” police said of Nassau County. Commissioner Patrick Ryder, WABC New York reported. Gonzalez pleaded not guilty to the charges, denied any involvement in the crime and denied being a gang member, his attorney, Jason Russo, said, Newsday reported. Gonzalez is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. Matthews also denies the allegations, his defense attorney, Stuart Austin, said, the newspaper reported.

Two Arrested After Deadly Foam Party Shooting on Long Island
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Newsday reported. The shooting occurred on August 21. Officers responded to a disturbance at the location at 85 Ocean Avenue. There, police found Carter with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died in a hospital. A 12-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder. A 17-year-old girl suffered a cut on her hand. Two 17-year-olds sought treatment at hospitals for gunshot wounds to the legs, police said. The teenagers were recovering. The suspects are alleged members of the Bloods gang and the party was reportedly organized by members of their rivals, the Crips reported, Long Island News 12. “They went there that night to kill someone and shoot into the crowd,” Detective Capt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said, the news outlet reported. “When they saw that five members of the group were possibly members of the Crips on the front lines, they intentionally attacked them, fired eight bullets, hit Deandre Carter and killed him.”
Ryder said the party had been advertised on social media and that up to 60 people attended the event, where alcohol and possibly liquid marijuana was served, CBS News reported. “We have zero tolerance for these types of matches,” Ryder said. “We proactively used social media to go after and shut down these types of parties.” The owner of the place, Deborah Young, said it was a tragedy. “To the best of my knowledge, nothing like this has ever happened before,” Young said, CBS reported. “I have a contract that states that when you rent my event space, alcohol is not allowed.” Young’s attorney, Camille Russell, said her client had “no knowledge” of the gang affiliation at the party, Newsday reported. A partygoer told CBS the festivities were peaceful until “the good timing turned into a bad night.” “We were just here to have a good time,” she said. “The next thing you know, I see some people running. “It’s generally a friendly neighborhood.”
