She stated she “started to smell something funny” about a half mile from the school. “I just thought it was normal to smoke coming from another car because I always smell smoke or weird smells,” Williams explained to WISN. “However, as I began to drive more, the smell and smoke became thicker.”

School Bus Fire Hero
With the school only a few minutes away, she debated ignoring the problem but instead took the life-saving decision to pull over. “I just told the kids, let’s get off,” she explained. “I got everyone off the bus and made them queue up against a gate.” And as soon as we got off the bus, I glanced back, and the bus was completely engulfed in flames.” The source obtained video showing smoke and flames rising from the front to the back of the burned yellow school bus as firefighters shoved a water hose through one of the windows.
According to WISN, Milwaukee officials initially reported that no children were on board at the time of the fire. Williams was rushed to a local hospital following the fire to check on her and her baby, who is due in August. Both were confirmed to be in good health. Since the incident, both children and school administrators have expressed gratitude to Williams for her quick thinking. “It just feels good that I was able to get them off and no one got hurt,” she explained. “That’s my main concern because if it was my child on the bus, I’d want the bus driver to do the same thing.” She was already again on her way to pick up the kids the next morning. They actually weren’t expecting to see me,” Williams explained to the newspaper. “They said, ‘Oh you’re back?'” ‘You weren’t burned up?’ “I replied, ‘No, I’m still here.'”
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, according to authorities.
