Hunter Palmer, a high school senior from northeast Nebraska who had committed to play football at Midland University, died after collapsing after a track session last week. While the school does not confirm Palmer’s death date in the release, Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner reports that he died Friday at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point.
“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm Hunter Palmer, senior at Wisner-Pilger Schools, has died,” the school said in a statement. “Once funeral arrangements are finalized, additional information will be provided.” During this tough time, it is critical for parents to check in on their children.

Palmer was a standout multi-sport student-athlete for the Gators who committed to Midland University in Fremont to play college football. Hunter Palmer has inked an agreement to play football at Midland University. Hunter, congratulations! Midland football coach Jeff Jamrog issued the following statement on Twitter:
“Heaven has gained a great young man,” the inscription said. “Our hearts are heavy, and we are all grieving the loss of Hunter Palmer.” Our hearts go out to the Palmer family, friends, and the entire Wisner-Pilger community. Our team had a great time recruiting Hunter. He was a vivacious young man who was a joy to be around. Hunter was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. Hunter left us far too soon. Hunter, may you rest in eternal peace. We already miss you.”
Funeral services will be held at the Wisner City Auditorium on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m., according to Minnick Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place in the Wisner Cemetery, according to their website, with a reception on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Wisner City Auditorium. Wisner-Pilger will host its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 13.
