Hobie Landrith, the first player in Mets history, died last Thursday at the age of 93, according to veteran Mets public relations director Jay Horwitz. Landrith, a catcher who played 772 MLB games over 14 seasons, was born in Decatur, Illinois, and attended high school in Detroit. Before being traded to the Orioles in June 1962 as the player to be named later following the Mets’ acquisition of Marv Throneberry the previous month, Landrith appeared in 23 games with the Mets.
