Hanin Barghouti, an elected student officer at the University of Sussex students’ union, was filmed addressing a protest in Brighton on Saturday organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Ms Barghouti describes herself as Palestinian and said: “Yesterday was a victory. It was very beautiful and inspiring to see how freedom fighters so successfully broke a 15-year blockade under Israel’s inhumane genocide. ‘This shows the world that we will always fight and resist and we should celebrate these acts of resistance because it was a success. The revolutionary violence initiated by the Palestinians is not terrorism, it is self-defense…’

That same day, Hamas terrorists had crossed the border into Israel and attacked Israeli civilians, including 260 revelers at a music festival. Today, Counter Terrorism Police South East (CTPSE) said a 22-year-old woman from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of supporting a banned organisation. Police are asking witnesses and anyone with footage of the demonstration to contact them. Superintendent Petra Lazar of Sussex Police said: “After reviewing footage of the protest event held in Brighton on Sunday 8 October, the matter was investigated by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE). We will continue to support them as they carry out your investigation. ‘We are aware that the ongoing conflict in Israel and the Gaza border is raising public concern and impacting communities globally and locally, and we extend our support to those affected in Sussex.
