Gareth Ward Wiki – Bio
Gareth Ward, New South Wales MP and former Liberal state minister, has pleaded not guilty to sexual offenses against a teenager and a man. Police allege that Ward indecently assaulted a 17-year-old boy at Meroo Meadow, on the south coast of New South Wales, in February 2013 and raped a 27-year-old man in Sydney in September 2015. He has been charged with five criminal offenses including sexual intercourse without consent, three counts of indecent assault, and common assault, which is an alternate charge to one of the indecency charges.

Ward pleads not guilty to sexual assault allegations
The independent politician was arraigned at the Nowra District Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. The matter was adjourned to Downing Center District Court on April 3 while Ward’s bail continues. The former Liberal minister was expelled from the party and suspended from parliament a year ago following the charges and was running for Kiama’s seat again as an independent MP. Suspended members are barred from parliamentary precincts and prohibited from participating in the chamber or committees by virtue of a separate standing order.
A parliamentary committee last May recommended that Ward keep his salary and his electoral position until a court determines whether he is guilty, arguing that the deputy is entitled to the presumption of innocence. According to the latest ABC figures, Labor candidate Katelin McInerney has edged Ward out by some 700 votes. But Ms McInerney’s lead is fading fast and ABC’s top election analyst Antony Green says the job will likely fall to the independent.
