Garard Ndela Arrested: Police Investigation Report
The investigating officer, Detective Inspector Steve Byrne of Northumbria Police, said the case serves as a warning to anyone who thinks this type of behavior is acceptable. Det Insp Byrne said: “Carrying out a prank of this nature in an airport is incredibly stupid and can carry a jail sentence of up to seven years.” Ndela masterminded the controversial parody of him and was naive enough to believe that he could get away with it without question. However, this reckless behavior is in fact a criminal offense and is not something the criminal justice system takes lightly. I have no doubt that his appalling actions will have alarmed staff and caused unnecessary distress to passengers and visitors; it is only right that he has been detained and arrested.” The fact that he pleaded guilty and admitted to his actions in court says a lot, and I hope our communities know that we take these types of offenses incredibly seriously. As the summer months approach, our airports and transport hubs will continue to get busier and see more people pass through, and we will be working hard with our partners in Anti-Terrorism Police, the UK Border Force and security personnel. from the airport to ensure everyone has as smooth a journey as possible.’
