Gabriela Kosilko, 26, was last seen buying food and drink at a shop on Fosse Road North in Leicester at 11.30pm on August 31.
She was reported missing the next day after she failed to return home from her night shift. Officers revealed today that they found remains of her and believe they are hers, although formal identification of her has not yet been completed. A man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Ms. Kosilko was also found dead in her custody cell, police said. It is believed the couple knew each other. A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has launched an independent investigation. The force will co-operate fully with this investigation. An IOPC spokesperson said: “We have launched an independent investigation following the death yesterday (Wednesday 6 September) of a man who was in police custody in Leicester. “We understand that the man, believed to be in his 30s, was initially arrested by Leicestershire Police on Monday (September 4) on suspicion of kidnapping and taken to Keyham Lane police station.

We are told that around yesterday At 10 in the morning the man was found unconscious in his cell and his death was declared there shortly after. “After being notified by Leicestershire Police, we sent investigators to the police station and post-incident police procedure to begin collecting evidence, including custody footage and some initial accounts from officers and staff. Shortly before 12.30pm we declare an independent investigation.’ Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team said: “Our inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Gabriela’s death are continuing and anyone who may have any information is asked to get in touch.” ‘If you were driving down Newtown Linford Lane at around 2.20 p.m. on Friday (September 1), please check the dash cam footage of her and contact us if you captured a red Audi A1 parked on the side of the road or saw someone driving it or sitting in the vehicle. ‘Likewise, if you were in the Ratby Lane area during Friday afternoon, please contact us if you saw the vehicle or anything that seemed unusual or caused you concern. “We would also like to reassure the local community affected by the events of recent days that officers will remain in the area while further investigations are carried out.”
