Freya Carley, a 16-year-old girl who died after being rescued from the water in North Yorkshire was described as a ‘wonderful daughter’ in a heartfelt tribute by her family.
Freya Carley, of Easington, North Yorkshire, was rescued from the water at Saltburn Beach when emergency services arrived about 2 p.m. on Sunday. Two lifeboats and an air ambulance rushed to the beach, but Freya was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Paying tribute, her family said: ‘We are truly devastated to announce the passing of our beautiful daughter Freya “Boo”. It is not possible to describe the pain and loss that we as a family feel. We take so much comfort in knowing how loved Freya was by so many.
‘We will never overcome the loss of our treasured child but we will strive to carry her memory forward and celebrate Freya as life continues for us. We love and miss you Boo but we know you are always with us in our hearts, we will never truly lose you xxxx.’

Cleveland Police has confirmed it is continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death. A spokesperson added: ‘We can now confirm that the 16-year-old girl whose body was sadly recovered from the sea at Saltburn on Sunday afternoon is Freya from Easington, East Cleveland. Specially trained officers have been appointed to support Freya’s family and all our thoughts remain with them.
Our investigations into Freya’s death are still ongoing.’ Her tragedy came just days after a 12-year-old girl and a 17-year-old male died while swimming off Bournemouth Beach after high waves, produced by a passing boat, led a number of bathers to struggle in the water. The child, identified by pals as Joe Abbess, had gone to Bournemouth with friends last Wednesday over half-term.
His family said they are ‘heartbroken and grieved’ by the death of a ‘beautiful young man’ and ‘brilliant trainee chef’ who died while enjoying a day at Bournemouth beach. Sunnah Khan, a 12-year-old girl from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was also killed in the tragedy, and her family offered a moving tribute to her as an “angel.”
