Who was Ertan Ersoy? Wiki, Bio, Age, Family, Suspect in the Murder of Wife Dr Antonella Castelvedere

Ertan Ersoy Wiki – Ertan Ersoy Biography

Ertan Ersoy, 51, stabbed Dr Antonella Castelvedere, 52, 15 times in the face, chest, neck and hands during a “savage” attack at her home. It is alleged that she hid a device in her house to secretly record her conversations and wanted her to kneel in front of him to apologize for a relationship she had before they met. Dr Castelvedere is said to have told a friend the day before her death: “Unfortunately, Ertan has fallen into a dark mood again and I fear for my safety.” Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC said: “He was right to fear for his safety because a few hours later the defendant, perhaps letting his guard down, told a friend that at times he wanted to kill his wife Antonella to get it over with. “Within 24 hours, Antonella lay dead on the kitchen floor of the family home she shared with her husband and her five-year-old daughter.

Ersoy was a professor of economics and associate professor at Suffolk University in Ipswich, where his wife ran a Master of Arts course teaching English and creative writing. He called emergency services after stabbing his wife on June 1 last year before going outside to call for help, Chelmsford Crown Court heard. He told neighbors that his wife had stabbed him and he was taken to hospital with two “superficial wounds” to his stomach. Police and paramedics found Dr Castelvedere inside the house with “catastrophic injuries” caused by a kitchen knife, including one to her neck that measured six inches long and almost three inches deep. Paxton told jurors they should be “cautious” about Ersoy’s injuries, explaining there was “no evidence” they were inflicted by his wife. He added: “Even if it is concluded that she stabbed this defendant, it cannot justify the fatal attack that the defendant unleashed on her.” Ersoy never gave an explanation for his actions nor made any claims about his wife’s behavior towards him, the court was told.

‘Jealous’ husband killed lecturer wife at Colchester home

The defendant denies murdering his wife of eight years, but has admitted murdering her on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Paxton said Ersoy would present expert evidence that he suffered from an “abnormality of mental functioning” due to depression. “Let me make it clear that the prosecution does not accept the conclusions of the defense’s expert reports,” he added. “We say it was not the result of any mental condition, but rather the explanation lies in the defendant’s anger, jealousy and controlling behavior.” Paxton said Ersoy had “a lot of control and knew what he was doing when he stabbed her over and over again and that her actions did not arise from anything she said or did.” He continued: ‘By doing so, we say he intended to kill her. You may think that taking your partner’s life is the ultimate act of control.

“You might think that this defendant was someone who had to be in control and was jealous and angry about everything he perceived Antonella to have done.” The listening device found by police at the couple’s home in Colchester, Essex, had a recording on it which wrongly convinced Ersoy that his wife was cheating on him, prosecutors claim. This, Paxton said, was an example of the defendant’s “jealous, possessive and controlling” behavior, which “fueled his anger and rage toward his wife.” Officers also found notes on Dr Castelvedere’s phone describing problems she was having with her husband, the jury heard. Comments from 2021 referred to Ersoy questioning her about where she had been, how he had fallen drunk down the stairs, and accused her of infidelity. Prosecutors say Ersoy was obsessed with the relationship his high-flying wife had with a married man before they met, even though he accessed online dating websites in the months before her death.

“The defendant wanted her to apologize, for her to kneel in front of Mr. Ersoy and say it,” Paxton said. Another entry on her phone two weeks before her death said he had followed her to her work and accused her of “treason.” Images allegedly discovered on Ersoy’s phone showed that he had photographed her work schedule to “spy” on her and had made inquiries about finding a private investigator. Paxton said police had also discovered a secret recording Ersoy had made of a marriage therapy session he and his wife attended in February last year. During the session, he claimed that his wife had assaulted and scratched him eight times, although she responded that this happened many years ago. He also claimed that his wife had talked about stabbing him and that she had anger management issues. Paxton suggested that Ersoy was ‘laying down a lie’ about his wife’s behaviour with a therapist, knowing that he was secretly recording the session. The trial continues.
