Eric McDermott, 59, Authorities in Boise, Idaho, have charged a junior high teacher with raping a male student.
On Monday, Eric McDermott was arrested. According to the Idaho Statesman, the teacher was charged with rape and sexual battery perpetrated by lewd or lascivious actions on a child aged 16 to 17. McDermott taught geography and coached a boys’ basketball team at Fairmont Junior High. During an arraignment on Monday, a prosecution stated that McDermott began teaching the male victim when he was 15 years old.
McDermott is accused of sending nude images to the then-16-year-old on a “dating hookup site” in 2020. McDermott allegedly chatted with the teen for several days via the website.

Authorities suspect McDermott then abducted and raped the youngster at his home. McDermott was placed on leave by the Boise School District when school administrators learned of his arrest, according to a statement sent to parents. We understand that this news will raise concerns about student safety, and we want to reassure our families that the District is fully cooperating with law enforcement and prosecutors as they investigate this matter,” said the letter. McDermott is being jailed on $1 million bail at the Ada County Jail.
Fox News reached out to the Boise School District and the Boise Police Department for comment but did not receive a response.
