A 43-year-old Sheffield man was detained today on suspicion of murder after the body of Emily Sanderson, 48, was discovered in a property on Tuesday after she had been missing for ten days.
South Yorkshire Police had previously established that the body located at a Hillsborough residence belonged to Emily Sanderson. A forensic post-mortem examination indicated that she died as a result of head traumas. The individual is currently being held by police. A 40-year-old woman detained on suspicion of helping offenders on Wednesday has been released on bail awaiting further investigation. Emily’s family is being supported by specially trained police, and they have requested that their privacy be maintained at this time.
She was last seen on May 19 and reported missing on May 25, over a week later. Ten days after her final sighting, her body was recovered. The property at Crofton Avenue, where Emily’s body was discovered, has undergone thorough and extensive forensic examination,’ said Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell. Hillsborough murder investigation: Man arrested after a woman discovered dead
‘Emily’s family and friends are obviously distraught by her passing. We are conducting our investigations with the care and compassion that Emily and her loved ones deserve while working as rapidly as possible to identify and locate those responsible for her injury. ‘I’d want to underline her family’s plea for privacy as they mourn their awful loss.
Now that we’ve established Emily’s identity, I’d like to encourage anyone with information to come forward.
‘Emily was reported missing to police on Thursday, May 25th, after she had not been seen or heard from since the previous Friday, May 19th. We’d like to hear from anyone who may be able to tell us more about Emily’s movements since May 19, whether they saw her or spoke with her since that information could be crucial to our inquiry.’ The officer has been sent to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Police are seeking anyone with information, a dashcam, or doorbell footage to contact them using incident number 389 of May 30, 2023.
