Elise Mason, 37, was discovered unresponsive at a residence on Rothmans Avenue shortly before 5.10 a.m. on Wednesday. Despite the greatest efforts of rescue personnel, the young mother was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead at the site.
Mark Donovan, 38, was arrested and charged with Ms. Mason’s murder by detectives. He was scheduled to appear in court today for the alleged murder. ‘I have not only lost my daughter, but I have also lost my best friend,’ Ms Mason’s mother said today. Elise was a wonderful mother to her children and was well-liked by all.’ The tragedy has shocked the residents of Rothmans Avenue, where flowers have been laid.
‘From the time we met you, you welcomed us into the team with your contagious grin and warm words,’ one remarked. We knew right away that we’d get along and enjoy a few drinks together. Without you, the sidelines will never be the same. We wish you eternal peace. We are praying for your wonderful children and family. We pray that your memory may live on and bring comfort and strength to all who knew and loved you. ‘Until we meet again, you will never be forgotten.’

Mark Donovan arrested
Following the discovery of Ms. Mason’s body on April 26, detectives launched an investigation. Donovan was detained on the same day before being charged with murder on Friday. On Friday, the 38-year-old appeared in Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody. He was scheduled to appear today at Chelmsford Crown Court. I realize that this is uncomfortable and of worry for neighbors and the community, but at this moment we believe that no one else is involved,’ said Detective Inspector James Holmes of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate last week.
‘We’d want to ask anyone with information that could help us to contact us as soon as possible.’ Vicky Ford, Conservative MP for Chelmsford, said it was “deeply tragic” that a young woman’s life had been stolen.
