Elaine Marco, 75, and her husband Philip Marco, 77, were discovered by police inside a black Mercedes Class 180 that had entered a flooded area in Mossley Hill. Deputies were called out of safety concerns for a man and woman inside the vehicle at 9:20 p.m. m. of Saturday. Both were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A statement from Elaine and Philip’s family said: “We are devastated and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Elaine and Philip. “They were much-loved parents of four children and 10 grandchildren. The family is arriving abroad from the United States and Australia to mourn their loss. “They were due to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary next week and our only consolation is knowing that they were together until the end.”

Liverpool’s Chabad-Lubavitch Synagogue confirmed Mr and Mrs Marco as the victims in a social media post. Alongside a photo of the couple, a Facebook post read: “A terrible tragedy with the passing of our dear friends Mr and Mrs Marco. “May God heal the broken hearts of his children and grandchildren. “A great loss to our community.” Liverpool City Council said the road is expected to “remain closed for some time”. “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with those involved and their families,” a spokesman said. “Officials from the highway council and City Watch supported the emergency services in the response. The road is expected to remain closed for some time while an investigation is carried out, and motorists are asked to continue to avoid the area.”. The coroner has asked Merseyside Police to investigate the incident further.
