Edgar Junior, 50, was detained by officers as he was leaving the Elizabeth Line in Reading after subjecting a woman to ‘blatant and persistent sexual assault’ while traveling alone. He got on the train at Paddington and immediately began harassing a woman despite other passengers repeatedly telling him to leave her alone. Junior assaulted the woman before she got off the car and another passenger came over to calm her down until she got off the train. Despite this, the 50-year-old man continued to approach other women on board and harass them as well. The officers were alerted to his behavior and met the train at Reading station, where he was arrested. Police body camera footage shows British Transport Police arresting Junior, who is seen with two shopping bags, shortly after the train arrived.

Junior later pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Reading Crown Court on January 12 and was sentenced to 20 months in prison last month. He was also served with a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prevents him from subjecting other women or girls to unwanted attention and drinking alcohol in a public place. Detective Inspector Marvin Bruno said: “Junior is a disturbing individual who subjected a woman to a blatant and persistent sexual assault while traveling alone on a train, and the prison sentence he was handed shows just how seriously these crimes are taken.” I am grateful to the passersby who recognized his disgusting behavior and stepped in to help, before immediately reporting it to the police, allowing our officers to intercept the train and arrest him.”
