Edgar Garay Indiana man died after falling from a 70-foot cliff in Puerto Rico while recording videos on social media Sunday, according to authorities and a report.

The submerged body of Edgar Garay was recovered Monday by divers from the Puerto Rico Emergency Bureau after he plummeted from a coastal cliff near a lighthouse in Cabo Rojo, the US Coast Guard said in a statement press.

The 27-year-old was on a day trip to the southwest coast when he was last seen alive around 5:37 p.m. near the edge of the cliff, the US Coast Guard said. Garay’s brother, Carlos, told WTHR that he was on the cliff with his cousin, who repeatedly warned him not to get too close to the edge while he was recording a TikTok video.

“My brother has a TikTok account who loved to upload videos,” Carlos Garay would have said. “Unfortunately, that was what he was trying to do when he was closer to the edge than he should have been.” The distraught brother told the news station that Garay was found in an underwater cave with massive head injuries from the fall.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Edgar Garay and pray that they find closure and strength during this very difficult time,” Coast Guard Capt. José E. Díaz said in a statement. We appreciate the efforts of all the emergency services of the Coast Guard, the Puerto Rico Police, and associated agencies, especially the diving unit of the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau that was able to locate the body of Mr. Garay in such an inaccessible and challenging environment,” Coast said. The commander of the San Juan Guard Sector also said.

Aircraft, including Jayhawk helicopters, and a 154-foot quick response cutter were used in hopes of finding the Garay. Multiple searches were conducted from Sunday night through Monday before the body was located, the Coast Guard said.
