The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office announced Saturday that Duane Heard, 63, died at 6:11 a.m. m. Friday at a hospice in Rock Hill.

The coroner said Heard was shot twice that day and that he had been hospitalized since his arrest. He was transferred to the York County Detention Center on October 20 after his discharge was approved.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright reportedly requested that Heard be jailed in a different county to avoid any accusations of impropriety, and York County Sheriff Kevin Toleson agreed, according to the coroner’s statement. .
Heard’s health began to deteriorate and he was eventually transferred to hospice where he died.
