Donald ‘Prentice’ Patience the victim – Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a father was killed when suspected dog kidnappers tried to steal his beloved pet labradoodle.
The officers were taken to an address in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, at 10.30 am. Tuesday when they reported that the assailants were trying to kidnap a white dog. Searching the property, police found the body of 45-year-old Donald ‘Prentice’ Patience. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Patience’s heartbroken loved ones described him as “a much-loved son, brother and father who will be sorely missed by many, affectionately known as Prentice.” The labradoodle, whose puppies can sell for between £700 and £1,500, was recovered nearby following a “swift response” from police. He is now under the supervision of the competent authority, Greater Manchester Police said.
A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded that Patience’s death was suspicious. Since then, three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder. After being questioned, two men, aged 27 and 41, have been released on bail pending further investigation, while a 39-year-old man remains in police custody. A heartbroken relative said his family was devastated by the death.
