Derek Martin, 64, is suspected of stabbing to death Chloe-Jay Bashford, 30, and Joshua Bashford, 33, in their own house, leaving four children orphaned. Martin allegedly walked into a police station 10 minutes before the bodies were discovered.
Parents Chloe-Jay, 30, and Joshua Bashford, 33, were found with fatal stab wounds in their home on June 9. Their attacker was known to them, police said. An inquest heard they were found in different rooms at their home in Newhaven Cemetery around 7 pm. Surrey and Sussex Major Crimes DCI Kimball Edey said at the opening of the inquest in Hastings that Martin, also known as Derek Glenn, walked into a police station in Brighton ten minutes earlier at 6:50 p.m. m. of June 9. Martin attended Brighton Police Station and informed a member of staff that he had killed two people,’ he said. He allegedly named both people and gave his address. He said this is where the murders had taken place,” the DCI said.

Newhaven deaths: Derek Martin accused of stabbing
The police found Chloe’s body in the downstairs bedroom. A post-mortem examination in Brighton on June 12 found that she died from multiple stab wounds. Her husband Josh was found in an upstairs room. An autopsy on her on June 13 found a single fatal stab wound to the front of her torso. DCI Edey said the police investigation is ongoing. East Sussex assistant coroner Laura Bradford said the coroner’s inquest would be put on hold while police investigate.
Martin, 64, also known as Derek Glenn, is accused of murdering Chloe and Josh Bashford at their Newhaven home. He has already appeared at Lewes Crown Court, where he has been told he will face trial in November. The couple was described as the “most amazing parents”. Family members have set up a crowdfunding appeal for the four children: Brooklyn, Ava, Mila, and Joshua.
