Derek Arthur Silverthorne, a British pensioner has been found dead after diving in the sea off the coast of the Philippines. Found dead in the sea after going swimming
His body was taken to the Cuyo District Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was dead. They received information about a floating body in the waterfront crossing. The man immediately received chest compression while en route back to Cuyo Port, Palawan, but could not be revived. “Upon arriving at said port, the man was immediately transferred to the Cuyo District Hospital using the vehicle from said station, although he was declared ‘dead on arrival’ by the appointed doctor.” Mr Silverthorne’s best friend, Jimmy, from the Cuyo Water Sports Association, said: “We are arranging his funeral for tomorrow, March 30, here on the island.” We still can’t believe what happened to him. ‘Bill was the happiest person I knew. Local businesswoman Daziella Young said on Sunday March 26 that Bill had been staying in the tropical developing country for more than a decade. She said: ‘On our Cuyo Island, Palawan, a British bachelor lived for over 15 years since 2008 in our humble boarding house. ‘To us, he was part of the family. He was our first tenant. We love you so much Bill, it breaks my heart to know you left us so suddenly.’ The grieving friend reported that a wake would be held at her house to follow the Englishman’s wishes. She added: ‘His wake for him will take place at our home in Villa Gange, Catadman, Cuyo, Palawan. We contacted his relatives and the UK embassy because he wanted to be buried on his beloved island of Cuyo, his second home. His funeral is still being arranged while local friends coordinate with the embassy.
