Delfino Lopez-Morales Wiki – Delfino Lopez-Morales Biography
Delfino Lopez-Morales the suspect – A Seattle teenager was killed while driving home after his 18th birthday festivities by a 100mph wrong-way drunk driver, and the culprit has been charged with vehicular homicide.
Riley Danard, 18, and his buddy Khalea Theouk, 18, were killed while driving home from Danard’s 18th birthday celebrations in March. Last Monday, Delfino-Lopez-Morales, 36, was charged with two charges of vehicular homicide. According to court documents published this week, he was driving 55 miles per hour over the speed limit and in the wrong direction on the West Seattle Bridge.
The accident happened shortly after midnight, only hours after Danard turned 18, and while the adolescents were going home from celebrating his 18th birthday. According to local reports, police administered a test three hours after the crash and discovered that his blood alcohol content was 0.14 – nearly twice the legal limit. His THC level was also tested at 2.8. Inside his car, officers allegedly found an empty beer bottle in his passenger seat. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana.
Delfino Lopez-Morales is 36 years old.
Driver charged after fatal wrong-way collision on the West Seattle Bridge
Lopez-Moralez had borrowed the white truck he was driving from a friend. Shocking video from the scene shows Lopez-Morales’ vehicle speeding down the wrong side of the West Seattle Bridge just seconds before the collision. The collision itself was captured on Seattle Department of Transportation cameras but has not been released by officials. He had driven over a concrete curb that divides the lanes of the bridge. Immediately after, footage from traffic cams on the bridge captured the cars on the bridge with severe damage to the front end of each vehicle. The sedan Danard and Theouk were in appeared totaled with the car’s hood completely bent into the front windshield. The video shows bystanders rushing in to help, running to the bridge, and plying the doors open to try and remove the three people in the two cars. The teens were pronounced dead at the scene after EMTs and police arrived.
The court papers released earlier this week say the suspected drunk driver was badly injured in the crash and is still recovering from his injuries. After the devastating incident, family members and friends told KING 5 that the town would never be the same. I will never be able to recover from the loss of my precious son Riley and his best friend Khalea. ‘This is a nightmare I’ll never wake up from,’ Riley’s mother, Kristie Danard, said. ‘He was the sweetest, gentlest, and most loving young guy with a brilliant future. Riley and Khalea were two of the most incredible people you could ever meet. ‘They adored each other,’ she went on. The world has lost two extraordinary people. ‘Losing them will have an eternal impact on many lives,’ the bereaved mother remarked at the time. The teenagers had been friends for a long time and were both students at Snohomish High School, which is about 30 miles northeast of Seattle. The tragedy, according to friends and classmates, was needless. This did not need to happen, and it should not have occurred,’ Kelsey Brogan, a Thouek family friend, told KING 5 in March.
Following their deaths, GoFundMe sites set up for the youngsters raised a total of $67,000 for Danard and Theouk’s funeral expenses. Lopez-Morales was apprehended at the scene of the accident. His bail is set at $250,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 15 for his arraignment.
